Just like last year, this week, a special message in my inbox caught my eye.

Special Message from Professor Jablonski to our STC Chapter

I am looking for STC members who are interested in working with UNLV students enrolled in my ENG 407C, Advanced Professional Communication course this semester. Students are asked to study writing in their career areas and several of the students are English majors in our Professional Writing Concentration and interested in technical communication. The students will be asked to study writing at a particular company by interviewing a writer, conducting a site visit, and collecting and analyzing sample documents. Students have to conduct at least one observation and one interview over the course of the semester.

If you are willing to help a UNLV student this semester or have questions before you commit, please contact me by e-mail at jeffrey.jablonski@unlv.edu and let me know a little about your work. Students will begin their assignments as early as next week, so a prompt response would be appreciated.

Special thanks to those STC members who volunteered last spring. One student involved in the course has become an active STC member as a result.

Lastly, if you believe you or your company might be interested in providing technical communication-related internships, I would love to be able to send some UNLV students your way.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Jablonski, PhD

Speaking as one of the volunteers, I thought it was a great experience. Not to mention, Matthew joined STC as a result. So I encourage you to take part. You never know, you might learn something too. :)
